I live in Kentucky and I've never seen so many proud rednecks. Redneck used to be a negative word, even among rednecks. A redneck used to be someone you can't go out and party with because they would piss everyone off and get their and usually your a** kicked too. A redneck was an inbred loser, someone who has never been out of the county, someone you DON'T want to be! Now, "redneck" has become a adjective that means a country person, a farm guy/gal, a cowboy/cowgirl. It's lost all negative connotation completely. When did this happen? Did Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White, Larry the Cable Guy, and Bill Engvall have that big an effect on American society.

i beleive they had an affect on american society, but I believe it is mostly everyone's drive to be different. People today are constantly insulting themselves and are proud of it. Especially in the Goth community that I have seen. but to answer your question, with a name like Roadkill, yes, i'm proud to be a stupid ol' hillbilly

I think there are multiple definitions of redneck, I know people that I call rednecks that are raciest loud mouths who think there way is the only way. But I have other friends who I call rednecks, who would stop to help anyone on the side of the road, who can fix anything with ductape, and would not even consider taking payment for helping. They speak with a southern draw, but are some of the friendliest, kindest people you will ever meet. I think until recent times these "good rednecks" were overshadowed by the "bad rednecks"

The meaning of words changes. The first rednecks were probably Scottish Presbyterian Jacobites who showed their sentiments by wearing a red scarf. Their descendants came to America and the name stuck.
Nowadays "redneck" is just a popular thing to call oneself. Maybe Foxworthy helped make being a redneck cool because if you listen to the redneck jokes long enough you realize that at least one of them applies to you or someone you know well.

I believe they have caused people to look at the word REDNECK a little differently. And yes I am damn proud to be a redneck, hillbilly, and a hick from the sticks. I wouldn't want to live any other way. I work in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio and I couldn't imagine living here. I tell the guys I work with,"I don't get out of my truck up here, unless I am getting paid". Everyday I can't wait to make that 80 mile trip south, back home.

Yep, I'm a redneck. I like my beer, trucks, Lynyrd Skynyrd, tailgate parties, and I own more that one piece of attire with a rebel flag on it. I was raised on a biscuits and gravy diet and my dad's name is Jimbo. I'm very proud of my southern heritage. Don't get me wrong, there are different kinds of rednecks, some more appealing than others. You got white trash, hillbillies, crazy shoot 'em up hunting rednecks, then you've got your average NASCAR redneck like me.
I think a lot of it has to do with the entertainment industry. Country music is a lot more main stream and yes, I think Jeff Foxworthy has a lot to do with it. What was once considered to be trashy is just now kind of endearing.

Yep, they did.. I too remember this happening growing up and also remembering my mom calling me a "redneck" more than once simply because I was out like a boy working the farm and the back of my neck was always red from the sun of coarse . Papa always said; " pay her no mind you just have a farmers tan and that is good cause we are farmers ".. Note ,farmers of plants

"Rednecks" are everywhere. They are white people that have
been left out of the "American Dream" because of the greedy,
selfish elitists who refuse to offer them a living wage. They
know this,so they have united in anti-elitist social class just
to demonstrate their anger.Am I right? No I'm not proud to
be a redneck.
