Chitiqua's answer was great! I also have heard of the same study suggesting that flax OIL is bad for the prostate. Eating the seeds is not going to get enough of the oil out to do anything, but they will make a good laxative. In order to digest any of the oil in the seeds, you need to grind it up in a coffee grinder. The body cannot break down the tough, flat shell of the seeds. A nutritionist friend also told me that the body does not assimilate flax oil very well at all...the omega-3's (the good fats) in flax is chemically "locked up" in the oil and cannot be extracted by the body like they can in fish oils.
If you want fish oils, I recommend Nordic Naturals.
If I had prosate cancer, I wouldn't be touching flax at all, based upon that one study.

What a silly question but to answer. I don't have a prostate, but it's very healthy so I'm sure it does not. I take flax seed oil pills with omegas and lignans and vitamin d with calcium everyday for health. I have brain cancer and anything I can do in addition to my treatments, I'm all for.

Research oscillates.....one day something is good for you, the next it's bad. I recently read that flax seed oil can actually increase prostate tumor growth. "....disturbing research published by Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers at the University of Virginia Medical School in Charlottesville. He has evidence indicating that flax seed oil may promote the growth of prostate tumors. In someone with prostate cancer, I would avoid flax seed oil and instead take 2-3 grams per day of fish oil" (Dr. Dean Ornish). The above statement refers to flax seed oil, the actual SEED seems to be ok.
True? It's one study. Still if you have prostate cancer, it might be wise to go with the fish oil for your omega-3 fatty acids.

If the patient is undergoing treatment for prostate cancer then flax seeds are bad as are vitamin-c, antioxidants, tomatoes, etc. Best stick with the Dr approved treatments.

I wouldn't understand why- the prostate isn't part of the digestive system.
Besides, flax seeds have tons of Omegas and antioxidants which may be beneficial in fighting cancers.

Maybe so but I know that flax seed can make you very, very sick if you have I.B.S. (Irritable bowel syndrome).
