OK, try this, no gaurantees......get some ordinary washing soda, like a 2lb bag, put it in machine. let machine fill, but not overfill, shut of water at the tap. set the hottest possible wash.....and go......
The soda may clear that greasy mess that soap leaves. As others have said, there is a pressure switch that monitors water level, this is at the end of a thin pipe....hopefully, the soda will clear that pipe. and all will be well.
If it works, there is no penalty to doing tha same again, except the cost of the soda. this keeps your machine super-clean.

I had that happen to my Kenmore, I think they ended up replacing the timer on it. Really weird thing, it would come on during any spin cycle, so the clothes would be soaking wet after the washer was done. It only ran the cold water, so I put a ball valve on the cold water line so we could wash our clothes until we got the repair man out to fix it.

if its a new washer less than 5 years old theres a control box gizmo at the rear of the machine. most of the machines are electronically controlled nowdays. engineer will come out and fit a new control box gizmo. its that simple. or it could be mechanical like a stuck valve. best get the experts out to have a look. and if its under warranty then you dont have to pay for it

If you have old cast iron pipes, you may have a blockage at the valve from corrosion. See if there is water available after the valve.

I had that problem and I used a drain clearing product to clear the kitchen sink.... It was the overflow due to it not draining fast enough that was going back into the machine.

There is a pressure switch in the casing with a pipe connected to the tub, it monitors the pressure and when it reaches a certain pressure it switches off the water feed. it needs checking.

sounds like the solenoid valve that shuts off the water fill is not operating. Either its not getting a signal to close or the valve itself is duff

Probably a good idea to phone up the help line. If it has a pump out function use that before you open it.
