Isn't the constitution part of what makes America, well America. So why would Bush refer to it as "just a goddamn piece of paper"? Maybe I'm crazy but without the constitution, I don't think any of us would be living the way we are now. Any thoughts on this?

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the [Patriot] act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.
"I don't give a goddamn," Bush retorted. "I'm the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way."

"Mr. President," one aide in the meeting said. "There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution."

"Stop throwing the Constitution in my face," Bush screamed back. "It's just a goddamned piece of paper!"

From the author on Capitolhillblue:
When this story was written, three sources told me they personally heard President Bush call the Constitution a "goddamned piece of paper." I have since learned that two of the sources were not present for the meeting and were, in fact, passing on second-hand information. The third now refuses to either confirm or deny the report.

The author could not prove he said but went with the story anyway.

Because it is open to amending, which means manipulation, which means it is not just a goddamn piece of paper but a worthless piece of excuses to fall back on.
What makes the US the US is the people and the ideals we hold of a free society. There are some who don't believe in a free society on all side of the political arena and they make more laws to govern us using the constitution as their backing. And then there are those who attempt to take out parts of the bill of rights.
Freedom is an idea, not a written document.

Technically I think the Constitution was originally written on parchment. And after all these years it's seemed to become a liturgy of documentation. At this point I'm sure we have it scanned in on computers. I think the issue is really a matter of considering the source. As the Constitution has become the letter by which our laws are written, it was also a treasonous action taken by the forefathers of this nation. So in essence it is more important as a symbol than it could ever be as a physical object.

Research Sweetie its a new thing you may want to try... Here's the rest of the story....
Three sources told Doug Thompson from The Capitol Blue that they heard Bush say this. Two of those sources were not even present at the meeting and the third source now refuses to confirm or deny.. AS for tinkering with the Constitution, members of congress have proposed 11,000 amendments over the last decade.

Why are you mad now. This was his same position long before he was elected to the Nations highest office.

The guy is a blow (coke) monkey who has been in some kind of trouble all through the course of his life. He is a 'C ' graduate from Yale with a major in skull and bones and a sworn allegiance to Hitler and Fascism.

By the time he leaves office the constitution will have been his toilet paper. Cheeky little monkey-bum.

Care to provide a reference?

By the way, it's usually Democrats that talk about the constitution meaning anything high and mighty liberal judges say it means. Although I wouldn't expect even a liberal to say its "just a goddamn piece of paper", that's the way they consistently treat it.

This joke sums up my thoughts entirely!!!! Regardless whether he made that statement or not!!

Plastic Surgery Miracles

Three Texas plastic surgeons were playing golf together and discussing surgeries they had performed.
One of them said, "I'm the best plastic surgeon in Texas. A concert pianist lost 7 fingers in an accident, I reattached them, and 8 months later he performed a private concert for the Queen of England."

One of the others said. "That's nothing. A young man lost both arms and legs in an accident, I reattached them, and 2 years later he won a gold medal in 5 field events in the Olympics."

The third surgeon said, "You guys are amateurs. Several years ago a cowboy who was high on cocaine and alcohol rode a horse head-on into a train traveling 80 miles an hour. All I had left to work with was the horse's *** and a cowboy hat.

Now he's President of the United States."

Because he's a money grubbing warmonger. Its not just what he says, but what he does that proves he doesn't care about the Constitution. ie. the Patriot Act and The Patriot Act II.

So is the bible!
So is the news, which is mightier than the sword.
Our constitution is crafted by brilliant men who wanted a free society. where you could feel free to talk to or write to people about anything without fear of someone, big brother listening in.
