pour some draino.. that usually takes care of that!

Draino can be used but if you use it too much it will damage your pipes and might cause a leak. My best advice (having to deal with this problem before) is to call a plumber...he will send a snake down your drain and it will vacuum up residue, hair, etc. Or, you can rent (or probably buy) a "snake" if you think you would be able to operate it, if this will happen a lot and you'll use it more than once, or if it'll cost less.

The best way to keep your tub from clogging again would be to get a cover for the drain if it's just a drain whole (so hair etc. can keep from going in and getting stuck), and to brush your hair before showering so less hair sheds during washing, and to throw away little bits of soap that will get stuck/will fall into the drain. And pick up hair stuck over it at the end of every shower.

Good luck and have fuuuun!

Hi, when I moved into my home I found the kitchen sink and toilet sinks, and bath tub stinking like a sewer and clogged with hair, scum and what ever could fit down the plug holes...

in the tub plug hole there is a screw usually, and under the basin/tub you will find a pipe that can unscrew.
If done carefully you can do this without the need for a plumber if only gunk in the plugholes and immediate pipes beneath

Carefully unscrew the screw in the top to remove the whole plug hole attachement=little cover...
this is usually a fairly long screw - where all the gunk gets caught round.
If careful there should be no difficulty in doing this little task for yourself....

It'll probably be hair mostly if girls are washing hair in the tub ;)

It does seem like you are really trying so I won't bother to tell you you to check for hair clogs! Depending on how old your house is and IF the plumber was a qualified plumber, then there's a possibility that a vent stack might've never been installed.Get a book ( them things with paper inside and words printed in ink ) on plumbing and you should find a drawing to show you how to properly vent. If that is not the case there is a LAST resort. I don't remember the name of this drain cleaner but it's so potent that it will clean all drains within a 2 mile radius. Not really but it is damn good. Go to a janitorial supply company and ask for the best. And for God's sake please follow the insructions to the letter! Meanwhile I'll try to get ahold of my brother and find out exactly what it's name is. Check back . The DUDE say's, good luck and bathe on Sweeny.

there is something called drano or liquid plumber, it really helps, I used it just this week on my sink. lol try it!! It works great, if that doesnt work the clogging might not be in your tub only it may also be in the sewage pipes and for that you might just have to call a professional. Try the drano or liquid plumber and you might find a liguid solution or the gel solution, try the gel kind before the liquid. Good Luck

1st dont use liquid plumber b.c all that is, is acid you are putting down your piping system and it will eventually eat away at your pipes and can cause leaks which will be an expensive fix. take a pulunger, put it on the drain and push up and down without breaking the seal of the suction cup. do that for a while and it will push the clog out into the the sewer system or whatever your town has. if that doesnt work you can buy a snake. a snake is a cable that goes into your plumbing system grabs the clog and walla its all clear. if that doesnt work call a plumber.

if u gonna give a try to the plunger make sure before using it u must have a lot of water around the plunge and put a rag on the overflow opening of the tub to avoid the air to get in when u use the plunge, try it and if the clogging material is not too heavy it will flush away .

I know you cannot take your' tub apart. Now it's possible that the sewer line is plugged. Have you used a snake? Yes? Still doesn't work? call a plummer. If you have kids, probably, the dump a toy or something that won't dissolve. If you live in an apatment, it's possible your' neighbor, dumped something down the line, and it's affecting everybody.

There is probably a big hair clog beyond your reach. Walmart sells a product called 10 minute Hair Clog Remover in the plumbing section. It is about $6 for a half gallon and it might take 2 tries but it is the only thing we have ever found to work. Good luck!

Hi I do handman work for people with apartments
1 what type of pipes in the tube?if the plumbing is olde there is a strong liqiud to use. It is called ST go to a hardware store and ask for ST drain cleaner. Make sure the water has drained out before pouring it in the drain let it sit you may want to put a old wet rag on the drain. It will smell like rotten eggs. than flush with warm water after 15 minutes go slow with the warm water.

I swear, I must have spent a quarter of my childhood plunging the bathtub getting my sisters' hair out of the drain so I could take a shower.

You can try a snake, but it's iffy. There are some weird angles in the drain, but if you can manuever a snake around it should work. (My youth was spent unbending wire hangers to clear the drain). You want to be a little careful if it's an old house because the pipes could be rusted and a little too much 'oomph' could go right thru the pipe.

Liquid plumber may work, it depends where the clog is.

My advice for once you're past the crisis is to get a little strainer looking thing that fits over the drain. It'll stop any hair from going down the drain. If I could go back in time, getting this to my younger self rates somewhere near killing hitler.
