You should make soft blocks for the baby. You can buy foam at fabric stores and cut them into blocks. Then use different colors & techtured fabricks on each side. You can put animals, numbers, etc. on each side. Try putting the crinkly sounding paper under the fabric too.

I am really partial to baby carrying slings! I LOVE mine, and use them on a daily basis. I also like to make them and give them as new baby or shower gifts.

There are 2 types that are super-easy to make.
A pouch sling is just a tube of fabric that goes over one shoulder, and the baby goes in the "pocket" in front. An older baby or toddler can sit in it and ride on the parent's hip. The positives are that this carrier is simple, has no buckles or adjustments. The drawback is you have to know the mom's general size, because there it's not adjustable.

A ring sling is a piece of fabric that is sewn around 2 rings, then threaded back between the rings (like a belt with the loop style of buckle). It works for a wide range of sizes, and can be used in many different carry positions. You can also breastfeed in them VERY discreetly using the extra fabric as a cover. You can carry a newborn or preemie in them, and continue using it to carry your toddler piggy back style!
The downside is that some people have trouble adjusting them the first time they use it, and give up trying at all. Most people do find them very helpful, especially moms with several children.

I will include some links about how to make these carriers

A cute baby blanket with the name and date of birth embroidered on it, I got one from the church I go to and I was speechless it was probably the best thing I ever got from someone I didn't even know especially. Get your own pattern from walmart and there you go! I never had one for my son but I wish I did! Something that comes from the heart and not something you would buy is a wonderful idea. It will always be kept!

Do you know what the baby will be named? Do you do counted cross-stitch? If yes to both, create a wall hanging spelling out the baby's name with a little saying behind each letter like this:
M is for mommy's boy
I is for I love you
C is for how cuddly you are
H is for Heaven sent
A is for the angel you are..... you get the idea

You should make a DIAPER CAKE.

They are adorable and you can customize it any way you want. Start by using the diapers to make the cake...then a blanket to cover it, ribbons to tie it, then decorate it with trinkets.

Here is one page just to get you started but do a search and you will find many more ideas.

How about a personalized baby book with cute stickers and stationary so the parents can fill the book as the child grows? You can add little baby ornaments and plastic letters... fun things that will make it cute!

Or you can make a picture frame...

Do you sew or embroider? Baby bibs, a decorative sheet to go under the highchair, a little quilt. Do you paint? A painting for baby's room, or decorate a little piece of furniture for baby's room.

You could make a toy chest. Of course you would have to make sure to put special hinges on it that would hold the lid open and also put a gap between the lid and the box so if the kid crawls inside he wont suffocate.
