I might have been too quick to start playing again and training since I havent played in years, but I recently just started to get shin splints and they are killing me.

A few things help. I used to get them from running and I dont' anymore. A shin splint occurs when the muscles in your shin get exhausted and lactic acid builds up.
1) build up the muscles with weight lifting (you can do a calf raise but lift your toes instead of your heel)
2) lose weight (muscles don't have to work so hard if you're lighter)
3) lots of stretching
4) slow down until you stop getting them, then increase the pace

there are certain exercises...also make sure you have the right shoes...and if u wear boots...make sure they arent too tight. but rest is the best thing.
