Boot to the XP CD, then essentially follow the steps (It is pretty easy) Once the XP operating system is installed, then you have to install drivers. Motherboard chipset 1st, then video, sound Networkcard, modem all follow.
Some may be native to Windows, most newer ites need drivers from the manufacturer

Buy a Windows XP copy and when your computer is strarting up, put it into the cd drive. The computer should boot from the CD. Then you simply follow the onscreen instructions. It should take about an hour and a half depending upon your processor speed.

make sure your xp cd disc in the drive, when you turn on your computer, once the screen comes up, press F12 or F1 or F2 (depends on whether you're using desktop/laptop), the screen will stop loading & instead ask you whether you want to boot from your diskette drive or CD drive etc, click on CD drive (because there's where your xp disc is), after that, just follow the instruction on the screen.

You boot from the CD ROM with your XP disk. You may have to enter into the CMOS to enable your system to boot from the CMOS. For there the steps are very clear.

Same as kevinn said except:
You may need to change your BIOS settings. You may need to set the boot order to boot from the CD-ROM first, then the hard drive.
Then just follow onscreen instructions
