It may be a bad bios battery. If you're computer is a little old the bios battery may have drained and the bios setting may have been lost. You say the computer goes through post then at some point the screeen goes blank. And you also didn't say that there were any pc "beep" codes on bootup so that tells me that the RAM and video posts went fine.

My guess is that as it posts and looks for the hard drive the settings for the hard drive were lost or incorrect. Look at the bottom of the screen as it posts it will give you (hopefully) the key or key combo to get to your set up screen. It is sometimes del, or f2, or ctrl-esc. Any way once in the bios screen go to the main screen and check to see if it has your hard drive detected or set to auto. Also go through the bios menus to see if you can find a setting for detecting IDE drives or hard drives etc...

Once done exit and save your settings and see if it boots normally. If it boots look into purchasing a new bios battery. These are motherboard specific so collect and model numbers that you have.

difficult to say, but the wires connected to the hard drives could be loose, or some of the cards could be a little loose, try open the pc, and see. This could have happend from a unfortunate slash to the pc.
