A diamond impregnated drill used at high speed with plenty of running water for cooling is best for home use. Commercial drillers use ultrasonic drills which are quicker but the equipment is very costly and out of the price range for most amateurs.

To be honest, I've never drilled stone, but your best bet would probably be diamond drill bits. I've used them to drill glass with minimal cracking/chipping. Keep the bit/stone moist and be really careful--the two stones you've mentioned have a mohs hardness of 7 (diamond is 10).
