Its my first baby. The due date when worked out from my LMP was 10 December (LMP was March 5) but as have 26 day cycles rather than 28 day they changed it to December 8.

I know it sounds silly but I hate hospitals and love Christmas with my family and I really don't want to spend Christmas day in a hospital bed.

What are the chances of me going this overdue?

I'm in the UK I think most new mums stay in for a few days I'm not sure of the "rules" per se, they seem to think people WANT to stay in so they can get advice on babycare (I can get all that from my mum-in-law who's an ex nurse.) But I will have to stay in for at least 24 hours because my baby will need to be monitored.

I worry that sometimes if they induce you with pessaries etc it takes about 4 days or longer to work and for the baby to arrive, so even if they induced me on the 18th I wouldn' t have him till the 22nd and then have to stay in for a couple of days or longer is anything goes wrong. I want a homebirth but BF won't hear of it.

My baby will need montoring as I have been taking Paroxetine for anxiety for several years and my doctor has advised me to stay on it through the pregnancy, but I've since been told it might mean my baby has a reaction when he is born so will need to be monitored for at least 24 hours.

Its just a two day difference. Don't worry about it.

That is pretty unlikely. Most times if you are running a week to 10 days overdue your doctor would induce you. That could change your due date to Dec. 18th at the latest. Most women aren't in the hospital more than 4 days. you'd be home by a couple days before Christmas.

I was due the 24th dec with my first child and he was born 13th .
You could go early too ,If your due date is the 8th they will go by that they will not let you wait as long as to the 25th .
If you are getting an epidural normally the hospital books you in to get this so again you shouldn't be waiting well over your due date.
If everything is ok with you and baby you shouldn't be in more than 3 days.
With my third child i had her at 630 pm and was out next day by 1230.
Just remember to take it easy first few weeks with the new baby so you can enjoy xmas day
all the best x

I doubt your baby will be born on Christmas. Nowadays doctors don't let you go too many days overdue. If you are late they usually will induce labor or go for a c-section because the baby cannot be in you for too many days after the 40 weeks. You are due for Dec. 8-10, I wouldn't worry about it! Congratulations!

If you go a week past your due date, I think you can ask them to induce labor. But honestly, I'm sure you'll have the baby either way within a week if not more. You are due far enough before Christmas that it's very unlikely you'll go that long overdue. So, relax and enjoy this time because no matter how miserable you may be, you will miss it. :)

They will let you go up to 2 weeks overdue (most babies don't need 42 weeks). So with a due date of the 8th, that means a delivery by Dec 22. So Christmas with family.

i had my daughter on the 22nd of december and came home the same day and had xmas with my family

the chances are if you do go over and need to be induced they only let you go 12 days over so that means you would have the baby around the 20th and be home within the day
so there is still time for you to be home with family for xmas

Don't worry about it Hon. the due date is nothing more than an educated guess. My first was due in mid september but arrived mid August while the second was due early August and arrived at the end. Just relax and baby will be here when it's ready and the time is right .

Ask a doctor its way over the heads of most Yahoo answer people - honestly - worry about the baby being Ok rather than you missing Christmas at home.

you'll be long gone by xmas. i was due last year on 16th and they had me arranged to be induced on 20th so that i wouldn't be in over xmas. (they don't have the staff for xmas so they like to make sure you've been and gone by then!)

Don't worry about it cos i worried the same and she was born herself on the 18th. it was lovely having a little xmas baby even though a little chaotic. the house was full of xmas cards and pressies as well as baby ones. just enjoy it and let everyone else do the organising!!!
