i am going to be going into graphic design in college, what is a quality high performance computer i can purchase around or under the price of 1500.00 that is going to be upgradable and compatable with various editing software?

Find a local compter store that has been around a while, talk to the owner, and have them custom build you a machine. Then if you have any need to upgrade, or problems, you can go there with your computer and get help.
Do not buy from a big box shop or online unless you are a true geek and can take care of your own problems. Otherwise you will be on the phone to some outsource country and frustrated and pissed off and you will wish you had taken my advice.
Do not be conned into thinking Mac is the only way to go.

If you want future upgradeability, which is wise, avoid laptops. You will get more for your money with a desktop, anyway.
For graphic design, spring for at least a GB of memory and the best graphics card you can afford.
Configurations and prices change rapidly, when do you plan to buy it? My kids have already gone back to college.

I would stay away from the cheap ones. Do not get HP or compaq. They are junk. Go to the library and look through some computer magazines.

I would have to say, a Dell... they custom design your computer for you when you order it online or over the phone... IMHO. Good Luck!

i would recommend a hp notebook with a big hard drive space and lots of RAM about 1 gigabyte.
