I'm a dude currently living with 3 FEMALE roomates ... and I share a bathroom with 2 of them ... now, before the 2 moved in, the drains in the bathroom worked GREAT and I had NO problems with neither the sink nor shower drains. But now ... both are draining awfully slow and I find loose hair all over the place!

So I have two questions:

1.) How do I unclog the two drains most effectively?

and

2.) Do any ladies out there have any ideas as to how we can totally bypass this problem in the future?

Thanks!

Pour a bottle of liquid draino down your tub drain and let it sit overnight

You can buy a hair trap for the tub drain - it is a finer mesh to catch hair. your roommates have to clean it out after every shower though. you can get something like that at bed bath and beyond

There are a lot of chemical products that might work, Marc 55, is one of the toughest. A good hardware store should have Marc products and that product specifically. If the problem is hair then you will need some sort of chemical that will break down the hair and not the pipes.

In the future, put a small drain screen over the drain and make sure they clean it out every day, since it will get full of hair. Other than that you are on your own bud.

Under the sink, there is U-shaped Trap. this is where everything plugs up.

At the base of it there is a 1/2 inch nut that unscrews and you can get to all the gunk that is in there. Use a coat hanger and bang it around in there until everything is out. It will be gross and stinky.

There may also be a lot of hair build up on the drain plug in the sink. The drain plug has a bar that goes into it and the bar unscrews from the side of he drain. Remove the bar and the plug will be able to come out.

im not a lady but to bypass this problem u need to either get rid of the roomates or have them shave their heads..... anyway check with the roomates to see if they have flushed ant fenale products down the drain.. if sou will need to snake out the main sewer line to make the drains flow better... as for the tube u need a small snake to clear away the hair that is making the drains drain slow....u can rent this machine at any hardware store.... i would call a plumber

Use rid-ex it works for clogs. And as for the second question have everyone clean-up after themselves and to watch what they leave in the sink.

Toilet plunger and then use Drano or Liquid Plumber as preventive measures for future drainage.
