They are both minorities....asains came to this country with next to nothing..so they start out poor. Is it easier for an Asain to climb the financial ladder than a black?....not a racist or hate question. If there is racism..don't the asians experince that to the same degree..or is it believed that the system is more racist against blacks?..

Some people are just more motivated to accomplish more in life...and even though it might seem like more asian people are getting things done than black people it doesn't mean that ALL black ppl are unsuccessful. Just like in any other race there's alittle bit of everything in each...lazy, hard working, ghetto, educated...it depends on the individual.

Well, black people first off we're taken to America against their will. They were beaten, tortured, forced into slavery, split apart from their families, and their cultures and languages were completely dismantled. That is a crushing thing to do to a group of people. Even when slavery was ended, blacks were horribly mistreated by the government until less than 40 years ago. Most blacks are not immigrants, and are as a population poorer than whites and Asians. Poorness means less education opportunities, which means less ability to get a nicer job and more money. Obviously there are plenty of wealthy blacks out there, but you have to think, so many lives in ghettos and projects and poor urban slums.

But it's not so much an inability for the blacks as it is a superability for the Asians. Culturally, Asians strive to work their hardest. Even as immigrants they are easily assimilated into American culture because most of them know and understand English, and are very willing to go above and beyond expectations. They respect authority, and set very high goals for themselves. Similar to the Jews, they have an incredible appreciation for education and earning money. This is why most Ivy League colleges are at least 20% asian, many are a lot more, and westcoast colleges like UC and UW have huge Asian populations.

With that education, and spirit to excell and do well for themselves and their family, Asians are able to climb the financial ladder not only quicker than blacks, but any other race in America including whites. Asians are more college educated than whites, do better in schools, make more money. They truly are a model minority. While some Americans feel Asians take away jobs, most Americans agree that, you can't really dislike a group that has almost no presence in jails, participates little in crime, not many are drug users, they are honest, hardworking, improve the economy, do all of this even though they are immigrants. Whites don't really have an interest in Asians because there really isn't any reasons to not.

Family cohesiveness and respect for the authority are Asian traits. Some others which serve them well is commitment to hard work and a strong desire to raise each generation above the last. Thus you have seen a Vietnamese leader of cadets at West point, Asian scholars whose parents do not speak English, various small businesses owned and run by Asians all within one or two generations. Black leaders know what the problems are in their community and are speaking out. An attitude of success must be fostered to combat the mentality of being a victim, and thus entitled to special considerations. The importance of family and the promotion of a strong work ethic are essential for success. One outcome of slavery has been the marginalized family and an understandably cynical attitude toward idea of exploitative employment. Family cohesion must be promoted and an atmosphere of success must be infused into the culture and good things will happen.

Asians don't have to deal with the history that black people do. White people never held Asians as slaves, so there's no tension to get in the way of progress. Asians are also more culturally developed than Blacks. They have a rich history of art and science, whereas Blacks came straight from the African tribes. Asians have had a head start.

Culture. The Asians in this country have kept a tight family unit and allot is expected from children in the way of hard work and acedemics. Whereas Blacks have adopted the White "Cracker" culture. They use the cracker language patterns (no, ebonics was used by cockneys and the welsh - the original Crackers- before it became ebonics) and also the way in which you show your manhood is to fight over any offense or disrespect.

I disagree with you. I have seen many accomplished and successful black people and many asians and even non-minorities (such as whites) who are poor and struggling to pay their bills. I think it is more perception than fact.

I understand that blacks were slaves but that was how long ago? Get over it already. During World War II many asians in America were held in internment camps and treated horribly, like prisoners of war or something. They don't drag that crap out and use it as an excuse for all their problems. It is in the past. Jewish people were killed in masses and held in prison camps in Europe. Many of them relocated to the U.S. after the war and they are generally very successful. They don't use it as an excuse for their problems either.

The thing that bothers me the most is that I am trying to raise my three children to be "color blind" and not make judgments about people based on race but instead on substance but many black people make it difficult. When we lived in Atlanta (in a predominantly black neighborhood), she had a black boyfriend and a group of black girls beat her up and told her to stay away from "their" men. How can we truly destroy racism when minorities are constantly segregating and seperating themselves from the rest of the country. If you truly want unity, then try coming together with us when we open our arms.

I don't think is a racist question. I am an alien myself, 36 years in this country. Look around and you'll get your own conclusion. But not only blacks don't get ahead, many whites are in the same situation. I have a very good friend and a very good person. White, 4th. generation American. Nobody in his family finished high school yet.

Can you say that Oprah Winfrey is Asian? Is Condoleeza Rice not successful to your thinking? How about Collin Powell? Michael Jordan, and how about countless of African-American Writers, Sports and Actors who are living in the most expensive suburbans in famous major cities in US. Don't they far out numbered the popular successful Asian at this point in time? I am an Asian and I appreciate your observations but I can easliy count ten most successful African-American in seconds yet it will take me to mention even for one minute five successful Asians. Success I believe is not always caused by racial descriminations but mosty by attitudes.

Your observation is right, or about right. But it is not only about will. It is more related to education. Successful asians get a good education in their countries and come to US for graduate school on the other hand black people can't get good education due to several reasons, discrimination is one reason but there also some other cultural and traditional reasons.

By minority .. please tell me you're referring to Texas.
Because in the world, Asians have the highest population.
If you're taking about Asians (Japanese, Chinese, etc.) they are extremely smart people. They are usually educated, know what to do, what to say and when to say it! They also have also of patience.
The reason for the majority of black people in the states to be behind, is because they were oppressed for years! and before that they were not civilized. Also, in some states, they are still being treated differently which really sucks!

and by the way, it IS a racist question, but it's not wrong to ask questions about race!!
