I'm not Republican but I supported the war until I found out that I was lied to.

It was more Cheney than Bush who was pushing the Iraq-9/11 link.

I didn't see the quote where he originally said that Iraq was directly connected to 9/11, so no, I can't say I feel lied to on that point. I knew all along that Iraq wasn't involved in 9/11. Can you provide a source where he originally connected those things? I think a lot of people confuse an Iraq-al-Qaeda connection, which did exist, with an Iraq-9/11 connection, which didn't.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11 and Germany had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor. What's the big deal? They are connected ideologically and strategically, both Germany and the Japs of the 30's and Iraq, Iran and the Afghans of today's world.

Before any mention of WMD's and terrorist training camps in Iraq used by Al-Queda operatives, the goal of the war in Iraq was "Regime Change". (Don't you remember all those 'regime change begins at home' bumper stickers?) That was all the justification that I needed for the war. I don't feel that I was lied to at all.
I recognized immediately the need and reasons to take over Iraq. Firstly, their military was already weakened and demoralized by the first gulf war and having troops there in conjunction with the troops in Afghanistan would give us a presence north and south of Iran which is where this war will end.

NO! Unlike Clinton who tried to redefine what having sex was, I think Bush had bad intel. So I don't believe I would class it as a lie. But that doesn't even change my mind about whether or not were should have gone to Iraq. His Dad should have done it in 1991 and taken out Saddam then.

But I'm not a REAL Republican so I don't know if I should even be answering this question. I've voted for Democrats for President in the past. I vote for whoever I think would be the best person not the party. If I were Prince of the planet I'd abolish political parties. AND I'd only put the name of the person running for office on the ballot. No party or incumbent designation allowed.

He did say it at the press conference the other day. You can find a video on the net if you search for it. 100% positive he did say it. I just watched it this morning again.

BUSH: IRAQ HAD ‘NOTHING’ TO DO WITH 9/11
Tuesday, August 22, 2006 - FreeMarketNews.com

President Bush was in the midst of explaining how the attacks of 9/11 inspired his “freedom agenda” and the attacks on Iraq until a reporter, Ken Herman of Cox News, interrupted to ask what Iraq had to do with 9/11. “Nothing,” Bush defiantly answered.

Bush never said Iraq had anything to do with 9/11. Democrats have never said Bush claimed it either. Google it all you want, you will never find a statement from bush that justified the attack on Iraq as being justified because of 9/11.

So a politician does the unthinkable and admits he was wrong....do we admire that or do we think that it would have been more noble to keep pretending he was right?

The fact is that if you are a Bush hater then everything he does will be wrong, even if he found a cure for cancer, some people here would claim that he, his dad, Haliburton, and Cheney invented the disease in the first place.

I am just stunned that anyone believed that Iraq was anything to do with 9/11 in the first place.

Of course he lied, that's what he's good at! Even more disturbing is the fact that we can't seem to conquer a backward little country that has no leadership. Taking over Iraq should have taken up an entire afternoon, not years. It makes us look extremely weak in the eyes of the world.

We went to Iraq because Sadam had ignored all warning from the United Nations and did not comply with the UN requirements and request. Sanctions were tried and failed and he still would not comply. Going to Iraq had little or nothing to do with 9/11.

I believe what we did was the correct thing. At the same time, I also beleve that it was very poorly planned. But please get your info strait.

Well, at the risk of angering both conservatives and liberals...

I for one am glad that our very liberal President Bush took out that far right wing conservative Saddam Hussein and his Republican Guard and Republican Palace so that Iraq can have a true Democratic Party, instead of just a conservative Baath party.

9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq and it he did not lie. The telling of the story has changed, the media has lied, the politician have changed their tunes and have lied. I have heard every single word the president has said and he has not lied one bit.
