Manual or auto??
Either case, if you haven't driven it, drain it and refill the standard.
I would take the pan off the auto and let it drip for a day or two, then close up and refill.
If you ran the auto, you poor bastage.

Rodney,
Hopefully you haven't started the car or driven it since you made this bobo. If this is the case, you need to drop the pan and drain the oil out of the transmission case, fit it with a new gasket, and refill with the correct transmission fluid.
If you've driven your car this way, well you'll soon be making a stop at a transmission shop to have your transmission rebuilt.

If you have not run the engine since the miss-hap I would drain the trany. the plug should be at the back of it. you can even purchase a Hains or Chilton's repair manual for your specific make and model. they usually cover more than one year so be sure you know how to identify what year you are reading about. but it is really not to bad to understand. If you have run the car I would call several different transmission shops and see what they say they would or could do for you. Do call several and get different opinions though cause some will say anything to get you in there. Good Luck

If it is an automatic then you add the oil through the dipstick tube for the tranny. If it is a manual then there will be a plug on the side of the transmission that you add oil through. When it starts to run out you know you have added enough.
