The mug is pretty big for a mug. It's like the size of a toilet paper roll. How do I know how much water to put in it since it doesn't have drainage?

You don't want to over water it since it doesn't have a drainage hole. The rule is to water when the surface of the soil gets dry. With your finger tip, touch the soil and if you can feel the moisture in them, you should wait.
