I believe there is better than a 50/50 chance an atomic weapon will be detonated on US soil in the next 30 years. We are very dependent on technology, and would be the country most devasted by a huge disaster (comet, meteor). Should I teach my kids survivalism, or is that too pessimistic?

Enroll em in the boy scouts, but just not with the scoutmaster in the matching purple uniform! LOL Also, get a nice cold beer, and watch Dr. Strangelove. It's a good movie, it'll make you feel better about living in the Atomic Age....

That's your call obviously, but I think a little preparedness never hurt anyone. Learning to survive without electricity or fast food joints is a good skill. There are camps you can send them too, or just take them out camping and show them survival techniques, but make it more about being together as a family and having fun.

You should teach your children how to survive under any circumstances regardless of your fears of nuclear bombs. This is vital information that can come in handy in any number of situations. When you hear stories of survival in tough situations, it is ALWAYS the boy scouts, army folk, or those that were trained by their parents that make it. The rest of hte fools don't survive.

Some people will call this "crazy" but my family live in a metropolis area and have purchased property outside of a city .Not deserted but not too populated and you can bet your butt we'll keep it like a fortress. The times they are changing .But please don't scare your kids and make them paranoid.Make it seem like a game , camping and learning how to live without electri is a good start.

I'm preparing...you probably should too. Not necessarily for an atomic explosion, but in case of other contingencies as well...riots, civil/race wars, anarchy, etc.
It never hurts to be prepared.
You hope it'll never happen, but you'll be confident if it does.
Kinda like car insurance.
