I have heard of this happening. So, either pick a different name or keep the one you were really wanting. Remember:
Whatever name you choose, your child will probably meet other kids throughout his/her lifetime that will have the same name.
If you keep the name you originally chose, change the spelling and or select a middle name that goes well with the first.
Keep your names to yourself until the baby has arrived.
Best wishes.
You know, I have two daughters. Both of them have first names that are not very common. One of them has only met an older lady with her name. The other daughter goes to school with a girl a grade younger with the same name. My name, however, was very popular when I was in school. Anyway, don't be sad. you have so much to look forward to. In the meantime, look up names on the internet or buy a baby name book.

It's just a name! I understand the principle of the matter but still it's just a name. You never know when you do finally have children the name migth of not suited the child. I 'am sure that there will be another one that comes along that will be alittle more unique. I have a little girl named Sophia and I kid you not one year later my friend that does'nt live here anymore named her daughter Sophia as well! She knew that my little girl's was named that and she still chose to name her dughter that. Try this next time you are around her simply say I basically named your baby for you thnks for giving me such an honor.!! That should get her goose and then maybe then she'll get your point.

That was pretty rotten of her, but she is just a friend and not family, so if you still wanted to name your baby that go right on ahead. It is a name you like. But here is the other thing, if you are married or have a serious bf, you guys should agree on what to name the baby, and by the time you get pregnant you might not even want that name anymore.

That's not good, but it's just a name. You can still name your kid the same name there's no rule saying a name can only be used once. If you don't want to use the same name, pick another name that's unusual, that you don't hear much.

Name your child whatever you want to. It is your child and you chose that name for reasons ( I am sure) that are different from the ones your friend had. There is nothing wrong with you and your friend having children with the same names -- it isn't a competition.

Use the same name but change the middle name to something different. That's real mean of her to use your name. My sister in law did that with two of the names I picked out. They are brothers and I didn't want them to have daughters with the same names.

My suggestion is that you come up with a better name when it's your turn. The same thing happened to me I wanted to name my daughter Kashmere Cheyenne and my friend who said she was having a boy but had a girl three days before me took my daughter's name, so I feel your pain.

That suks. Maybe next time you should make up this really ugly name and she will use it on her kid. in the mean time, whenever you have your kid, you can still name it that cuz it was your idea, then when the kids grow up you can tell them their names were your idea, your friend didnt have a mind of her own so you helped her out.lol

the least she could have done is to inform you about it. but since things already happened there's nothing you can do about it anymore. just don't brood over it. you could still give that name to your child. get over the sadness. there's more to life than just a baby name.

So, why can't you still name your child the name you picked out? She doesn't have a copyright on it. Also, you didn't either.
