Some stores do close on Holidays or do not remain open all day so doors would be locked. Also some have locks for safety reasons a clerk can lock someone in or out of store. Lastly many stores lock their doors after certain hours and conduct business through a window so even though open no one can enter store. I hope that helps

I have often wondered that myself- and would assume that in case a single employee has to go the restroom they could lock the door if alone. Or if something dangerous going on in the parking lot they could lock the door & call the police.

Good question.
