They work for people when they plan on actually coming together at some point. But, a forever long distance thing? I don't think so.

It depends on how strong the relationship is and if you are each willing to make an effort in continuing the relationship. Personally, I have been in a long distance relationship for almost three years and believe me it is hard, you have to make sure that there is a future together and to trust your partner and not be too demanding of them because the distance is as hard on them as it is on you no matter if you may think otherwise. My boyfriend and I are devoted to each other and we make an effort to see each other when we can. Good luck, love is forgiving

I think in the short term it can, but not very long, though if you truly love the person then maybe longer than you might think.
And also depends on whether you have the opportunity to see each other reasonable well. My wife and I lived in different states when we first dated, but she moved in with me within a few months, so it wasn't that bad.

Never been in one. I seem to get my self in enough hot water in my own city. I would hate to be adding more to my plate.
