It is always possible that a baffle has come loose in the muffler. Also make sure you are using the exhaust pipe hangers that that have rubber or a fiber built into them. Metal to metal will make a noise. You should have replace the muffler with the catalytic converter.

Man, there are so many things that could be rattling, but yes that is one of the things. Does it rattle at idle? If so, you may be able to find it by looking under the car while it sits on your driveway, use the sound to get you to the general area, then look for possible rattles. Don't forget the exhaust pipe gets hot.

Yes, your muffler can cause that noise if the mounting brackets are loose. More likely, though, is that the noise is caused by a loose heat shield. They can be pretty loud.

It could be the heat shield over the headers - they're prone to loosening over time due to the heat.

Check the bolts on the head shield, then start working your way down the entire exhaust - there may be a loose bolt or worn hanger.
