The needles these days are all sterilized. They are bought in bulk and used once, thrown away to protect other people(not necessarily the patient either). Would you keep a dirty needle laying around your home, knowing that it's got someone else's blood on it, risking the chance of getting yourself infected?
They throw away more for their own protection that the protection of the inmates they kill

I suppose some forms of rare bacteria could have unexpected results on the injection perhaps rendering it useless or causing it to go airborn. With chemicals, anything can happen.

so that the prisoner will not get an infection. it's a way of publicly stating that they're trying to cause as little pain as possible.
and so it has no use for the inmate, and it's good PR for the prison.

why do they also give them a shot of anastesia before they hit them with the poison...probably humane procedure...if they didnt people would be crying about rights and humane treatment and all that...
