Logic, and to a lesser degree, reason, is an approach to life that involves looking at every option and their outcomes. That helps you in life to make more informed decisions, and leaves you less succeptable to knee-jerk emotional responses.

There are different definitions of both words, but based on the second part of your question, here's what I think you're asking for.
Logic is the examination of facts, putting those facts in order, and coming to a conclusion based on them. A simple example:
Joe wears only blue sweaters
Joe is wearing a sweater.
Joe is wearing a blue sweater.
If the first two statements are known to be true, then we can assume that the conclusion, the third statement, is also true. There are a lot of different kinds of logic, this is only a basic example
Reason, which is sometimes synonymous with logic, is just rational thought. Thinking in a way that is coherent and as objective as possible, and usually includes the use of logic.
How can it help you in life? It allows you to evaluate any claim you come across, in politics, science, religion, etc. Advertisers and politicians often rely on peoples' inability to think logically to persuade or control them.

Logic: The principles that guide reasoning within a given field or situation.
Reason: A rational motive for a belief or action.
In other words: Logic is looking up definitions in a dictionary. Reason is understanding why one does their own work in an ethics class. Both are used in life so that one becomes a functional member of society.
