If I really need to tell someone something, even though I'd rather not talk to them, I call them at a time that I think they won't be able to answer. This way, I can leave a message, tell them whatever it is that I need to, and be done with it. Plus, they never suspect that I didn't wanna talk to them because I did actually call.
Although, it really sucks when you're planning to leave a voice message and they unexpectedly answer. I have to be all like, "Ohh hi. I am so glad you answered."

Also, I know a lot of people with really funny answering machine messages. Sometimes, I'll call just to have a friend hear their answering machine... and then they answer. I have to quickly think of a reason for calling.

Oh man, I have to call clients all the time...and I would much prefer to just leave them a message then to actually have to speak with them. That way I can be brief and I don't have to listen to how their day is going, or their myriad complaints about the world they live in.

Yes, of course, we all have had conversations we don't want to have and whose message we'd rather just leave in a voice mail to somebody.

all the time.especially with my mother. I try to call and tell her something very specific and if she answers it turns into a 45 min conversation.
So i usually just wait for Sunday for our weekly conversations and tell her everything then
