What is your opinion? Three people rent a loft together - the rent is 1400.00 per month. 2 are a couple and occupy one room, one is single and has a second smaller room. How much rent per month does each person pay?

Oh this is not me. It is three friends, they are dividing the rent in half 700 each and I think that is unfair and wanted to get public opinion.

You really should have discussed this beforehand.
If there are three people in the apartment, using the facilities and amenities therewith, the cost should be divided into three equal segments. The romantic life and/or sleeping arrangements of the occupants do not effect the number of people utilizing the space.
If a married or otherwise long-term committed couple desires to divide their two-thirds of the rent in a manner more equitable to them (IE, one works and the other does not, or there is a great disparity between their salaries) that does not effect the baseline cost of their residence, IE two-thirds.
Next time, talk about this first.

You REALLY should have negotiated this before hand...beucase it could go either way--- divided by 2 or divided by 3.
Could you strike a deal somewhere in the middle where the single person pays 600 and the couple pays 800? This would work especially well if the couple gets the master and the other gets the smaller bedroom.

Depends on what they agreed to beforehand but if no pre-arrangement.....certain bills (elec, water, gas) are based no. of occupants theerfore, it makes sense and is only fair if these bills are split 3 ways...as for the phone, cable etc, you can do the same or agree on basic/limited service spilt 2 ways
As for rent, it can be divided per bedrooms occupied (but if they are really generaous by 3)..this is why many pple do not allow couples as roomates....

this is a situation where you need to agree to these situations in writing in advance.
including a method of dealing with the time when any on of the people has a problem, or wants to sever the relationship
Yes it means creating a contract, as they say good fences create good neighbours.
so write out your understanding of all the aspects of the relationship, the good the bad and the end. Have your co-tenants do the same and then compare notes. and work towards resolving differences from the written notes you have, if you can't resolve them, sever the relationship and move on.
Any kind of longterm relationship where you are obligated to others (the landlord), you need to know in advance what happens if.......... or you will find out the hard way.
Good Luck

When you rent an apartment, you are basically renting a bedroom. Rent should be split 50/50 and utilities should be split 3 ways.

in basic terms because she is a international traveller and has more beneficial than you do (that her moms and dads provided to her) does not make her more beneficial valuable than you. human beings like that in no way take exhilaration in what they have or perhaps as she graduates and has to stay in the actual international it will be a impolite awakening. even as she asks for funds tell her she in no way paid for 1/2 the refrigerator like she had agreed to so that you'll deduct it from that volume. Ask her what got here about to the freezer cope with too. short of an finished conflict there is not too a lot you ought to do as i don't think of that's worth it. cling on until eventually eventually the proper of the semester (ought to) and do not room mutually with her back.

3 way split is only fair. if you pay 600 and they pay 800, they could split that and only pay 400 a piece. if you split it 3 ways it only 466. i split every thing with my roommate and I'm' never there. It's only fair!

Three people are sharing the space, so it should be divided three ways. Doesn't matter where they sleep.
