Personaly yes, it happened once in my Freshman Geometry class I got a right angle right down my throat. So from my experience its a survival thing of why I cover up.

This custom dates back to the days of superstition.
Back then people would cover their mouth when they yawned so a devil could not jump in their mouth
and possess them. Now it is just considered good manners.

It's something that you might get use to already but it is polite. People that tend to cover their mouths when they yawn don't spread germs and show how wide it goes and spitting saliva out. That would be rude and unconfortable, don't you think?

Because yawns can be contagious. People cover thier mouths so it doesn't spread. Or maybe you just have bad breath.

youhave a lot of answers for this. my reason is becasue it is a habit forced onto me from my mother smacking me with a backhand when i didnt cover up while yawning or sneezing.

if you haven't noticed, when you yawn a little bt of saliva squirts out, its something that you can't help, and by covering your mouth you prevent that saliva from going on other people or other things.

I don't know,haven't really tought about it.
I think it is out of culture,it's not a pleasant view to see someones tonsils or to see how many bad teeth does that person have.People's mouth,in general.
And you would look like a hippopotamus if you don't cover your mouth.And,think if you want that...

because it's rude. it's just a part of society. why do we cover our mouths when we burp? why is farting bad?
