People stay for a myriad of reasons. Some are broken emotionally and lack the strength to give up the familiar, even when it is bad. Others are so tied in financially that it would involve too great a lifestyle change. Still others are simply not equipped to admit that there is a problem.

Sometime a person just can't picture their life without their mate..
It is normal - Usually humans mate for life , and that instinct is stronger in some of us then others... Its really a genetics thing.
How ever I do think that a past will also play a big role in it..
what that persons parents were like.. It can also be that they just don't know how to deal with probs that arise because they never had a role modle to get that from ( IE ; TWO PARENTS )
|
If there parents gave up while they were young , perhaps because of argueing, They may think that is what is supost to
happen and be un-happy just because they know no dif.
rather then try to work it out and come to agreemnets with their partner..
A lot of people really don't know how to be in a relationship-
we all have to do it a first time and none of us are experts..
what exactly is the right way?
Is it the right way because of todays norm-
Or should it be like the old days - yes mam , no mam , thank you mam?
family morals arn'e what they used to be and don't seem to get passed along to the kids as they did in the past....
who knows what the future will bring - perhaps no morals will withstand time.

I'll join the club. Been in it for 18 years. I am finally moving on. Dont get me wrong. We have 4 kids, had some good times....but I'm just not happy anymore. Been a few years since I've actually been happy. Why did I stay? Like I said...we have 4 kids, and I didnt want them to grow up the way I did (being shuffled back and forth).
First marriage, I had no choice but to stay. He was abusive and made sure I had no way out. He was airforce - as soon as he went overseas, I hauled my butt out of the house.

For me it is easier to stay in something that I know rather then move on to the unknown.
Also if there are children involved some people stay together for the kids sake and not because they want to really be there.
Some also probably do it because they don't know they have a way out or because a person threaten they will do something if they leave.
Also sometimes the person who wants to leave listens to the great talk from the other person, while they say they love them they act differently towards them.

Maybe because they are afraid to leave it ,for some reason, that is either visible to everyone or maybe kept secret and "behind closed doors". They might also feel that it can be fixed with a little work and time, but only to be disappointed, generally. I know some people that simply still care about their "other 1/2", and even though it's not love, they don't want to hurt their feelings.

I believe people stay in bad relationships for the same reasons that they stay in bad hotels.
One time my aunt was on the freeway towards Chicago and she was getting tired so she stopped at a Motel 6. It was a bad place and she got no sleep. All night she could hear through the cinderblock wall the sound of a trucker partying with two hookers.
My aunt later married a trucker who ran off with all her savings and her best friend, but she stayed faithful to him when he came back when the money was gone.
So relationships and hotels are really similar.

There are many different answers for that one. I think because they are comfortable, affraid to be alone, hopful things will get better, have kids, they are getting something other than fun and enjoyment out of it. There is a payoff.

Sometimes there are children involved and the parents don't want to put the kids through a divorce.
If you're just talking about a normal boyfriend girlfriend relationship, I think just fear of the unknown.

you get used to being in a relationship. get used to the comfort state of it. you might be scared that there is nothing out there for you and things may be even worse with someone else. i just think its hard to let go once you are so used to a person.

i wish i knew to, I'm in that situation right now, and its weird because over all hes a great guy but i guess i expect to much from him. i love that's the main reason i stay, and the way i said i would leave him is if he cheated. my friends are pretty but they think they cant find someone knew, insecurity.
