In the movie "The Family Stone", what was the story with the pregnant sister?

I rented it the other night and watched it but was distracted with my infant and my husband returned the movie before i could watch it again.
I caught something where she was cuddling with her mother and she asks her, "Does anyone else know?"
And then later the family pointed out that her husband wasn't there with her, but then he showed up later.
What was going on there?

I thought the daughter had whispered something to the mother and THE MOTHER asked if anyone else knew.

I guess I was even more distracted than I thought. I'll have to rent it again, I really loved it!

Here mother was telling her that she had advanced breast cancer, it had nothing to do with her husband.

I just rented this myself... when she's cuddled with her mother and asks that question, she has found out that her mother doesn't have a year to live. The husband was spending some time with his son... and his son also was able to realize that his mother was going to die.

the whispering was refering to the mothers cancer. the pregnant sister was the only one that knew. Unfortunatly in editing alot of the pregnant sisters's speaking parts were cut. she was just the good soft spoken daughter. She is just hoping her husband will make it in time for christmas.

the pregnant daughter was not really part of the story line. her husband shows up later and in the part you are asking about, her mother reveals to her that she has breast cancer. that is why she asks if anyone else knows.
