Is a collective the same as a co-operative? I was part of a co-op for many years and it was anything but co-operative... herding frogs would be easy in comparison... it was much like being married to 5 other people AND their spouses. Now it's a partnership, and it works oh-so-much better.
However, my impression of a "collective" would have more to do with online sales, am I correct?
Regardless, in any group of people there are some who have a vision and some who just have an agenda... there are those who work hard and those who just ride coat-tails. So define your short-term and long-term goals, get everything in writing, plug your nose and jump - it's great being your own boss!

Go to the library, look on the net and get some legal advice. A collective and a co-operative are legally registered, like a business. You need a statement and everyone has to agree to it. It costs at least £800 to register. There are a minimum number of participants. I can't remember all the details.

Contact East London Printmakers- they are a Collective and were esablished about three years ago.
Essentially, it is like forming any limited company, I think.
Be warned~it requires a great deal of administration and organising artists is a bit like herding frogs.
