I'm a white woman and actually married to a Puerto Rican, and he never says I smell like cheese. He says I smell purty. So, not sure why the generalization.

really? others say the smell is fish, some say pizza, some say mac and cheese. Gee, as long as we smell like food, that's ok with me.
I suspect the fragrance you smell is the perfume they wear...probably made by J-Lo.
