My 1999 VW beetle has developed an engine vibration whenever the a/c compressor kicks on.?

COMPRESSOR IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD AND MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE BEEN CHECKED. ALSO SEEMS TO PULL ON ENGINE MORE THAN USUAL. PROBLEM JUST STARTED. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR ALL SUMMER WITH NO PROBLEM. MECHANICS ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. COMPRESSOR MAKES SLIGHT CLACKING NOISE.

i would check the motor mounts, chances are one of them broke and it is letting the engine vibrate.
