This is one of the issues I'm torn on. Part of me says that they should be decriminalized because the government should not be regulating quality of life issues.
The evil conventional politics side of me is saying of course they should be legal, look at the lost revenue source. There is a whole new bureaucracy that can be developed to manage the sale of legal drugs...
Did I mention all the money that could be made. And the money is just not taxes, look at all the people you won't have to prosecute and house in prison for drug offenses. Savings galore!
So we could be saving money AND making money at the same time! Perfect!

there are a lot of pros and cons when it comes to the issue of legalizing drugs, but unfortunate the cons far out weigh the pros. its true that drug related crimes would drastically decrease, and the amount of prisoners locked up for drug convictions would lessen, but drug use itself would be rampant, aids, hepatitis, would see an almost 3 fold increase. not to mention the fact that kids would have easy access to these kinds of things. making high school dropout rates increase, i understand that their are certain benefits to having certain drugs legalized, like cannabis, but keep the deadly ones off the streets, i have yet to read an article on how someone died from smoking too much pot. and don't know that cocaine, or heroin have any beneficial properties. to wrap this up, i would not want to live in a world where all drugs a legal.

It really depends on the drug. There are some good points to making some drugs legal. They need to look at the pros and cons and see if legalizing a certain drug will actually be helpful.
I just listed some pros:
-Decreases the black market
-Medical use (marijuana especially)
-You could tax drugs to get rid of debt
I think those are the major ones...

You live in a Free market fantasy land!
Do you think the free market can allocate resources fairly with monopolies and large corporations that abuse the capitalist system? I have never heard a good "Libertarian" argument.
You guys also support abortion! Why don't you criticize Republicans as well? I know why, most "Libertarians" are Republicans who are trying to appear as if they are really smart.
I bet you have Christan values but smoke pot. I hope the Senate gives Texas amnesty to be a free state. Who needs your types?
YANKEES WON THE CIVIL WAR, GET OVER IT! GO MILK YOUR COW AND SNORT COKE LIKE PRESIDENT BUSH...

Yes.
In the days of the prohibition there were criminals, killings, and gang violence over selling alcohol, just like there is over drugs now. There's obviously a market for it. Just cut out the criminal element.

Yes, and the government should provide all the drugs, addicts can carry, for a month. At the end of the month the garbage trucks can carry away the mess.

I think marijuana should be legal (and no, I'm not a pothead) but I do not think that hard drugs, i.e. heroin, cocaine, should be legal.
Marijuana is no worse than cigarettes and alcohol.

Many yes... Not coke, meth, or heroin though... Weed, mushrooms, etc... should be... It's such a waste to spend so much on a drug war... We could be doing much better things with it...
