And just why do you say Israel was defeated? And does this mean Hezbollah won?

Did Israel succeed in destroying Hezbollah? No. But I'm not sure that constitutes a loss by Israel.

Hezbollah has survived. But does that mean they were victorious? I don't think so. What did they accomplish? They got Lebanon blown to hell because of their stupidity. They didn't stop Israeli troops from coming into Lebanon. They didn't do a lot of damage to the Israeli infrastructure or even kill many Israeli troops or soldiers for that matter. They didn't get any prisoners released. Yeah they really defeated Israel didn't they.

I've heard no reports of Israel wanting to overthrow the present form of government thay have.

My view is instead of even considering Hezbollah as victors Lebanese should be telling them to get out of the country, they are more throuble than they are worth.

Israel may not have done what they set out to do (bring back the two hostages) but they certainly were not defeated. What they have achieved is a situation whereby Hezbollah have been pushed back from their border and the UN and the Lebanese Army are forced by global media coverage to be seen to be acting to prevent any cross border confrontations. It has also brought Syria and Iran's involvement into the picture and may curb some of their ambitions to keep the region unstable.

Mark you say "Israeli politics is like Ali Baba and 40 thieves...the Top 4 Israeli leaders are under investigation: President for Sex, PM for stealing money. Justice Minister for God knows what"

Well I suppose there is NO Corruption in Iran and Arab states is there?

And Mark, when was the last time leaders in Iran and Arab states have EVER come under public investigation or scrutiny?

I sure don't remember Saddam or Ahmadinejad coming under public investigation or scrutiny. Can you?

As Amiram A says "This is very typical for Israelis, whose leaders have always been criticized by the public and media.
UNLIKE neighboring countries, this could lead at most to early elections".

Mark, since when have people, the public and the media in Iran and Arab states been able to FREELY criticize their governments without fear of arrest or death?

And Mark, when were the last Democratic elections held in Iran or an Arab state, excepting Iraq since the Allies toppled Saddam?

I rest my case.

The public in Israel consider that anything short of total destruction of Hezbollah in Lebanon is not sufficient. you should remember they defeated full scale attacks by large Arab armies many times now.
since most Israelis serve in the army they are well aware of what has happened.
They think that some neglect in preparation of the army and bad military decisions led to the less than perfect results and they blame the prime minister, the minister of defense and the chief of staff.
This is very typical for Israelis, whose leaders have always been criticized by the public and media.
unlike neighboring countries, this could lead at most to early elections, and some changes in priorities for acquisition of weapon systems

Strange they just bought 2 Nuclear powered submarines yesterday. So they can launch missiles from the Persian Gulf into Tehran.

What kind of defeat is that.

Or does the meaning of defeat different in the language of Osama and those that live in caves?

Go big Red Go

Do not be fooled , Israel will never be defeated.. they have an atomic bomb and will blow everone up in due course, there are one or two strange people pulling the strings as well , and as they are mainly old men who have lived their lives will not mind if they blow up themselves at the same time. The young people of the middle east do not have any power, that is in the hands of the old (inflexible ones)...enjoy each day that we have....give peace a chance...
