Benson Hedges World Series Cup in Australia in 1979-80 Season was the first official recognised day and night one day international tournament. It was played between Australia , England and West Indies.
The First match was played on 27th November 1979 in Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney, between Australia and West Indies and so this was the first official day and night match. Australia won this match by 5 wickets.
The world series in Australia as usual had a best of 3 finals, and the finals were between England and west indies. West Indies won the first 2 finals and became the first winners of a day and night one day cricket tournament.
