Nice, up-and coming, some dodgy areas, especially the further south you tend to go. I love the place. You need to be more specific about the area, as the East End is very wide spread, with a whole variety of communities and areas.

Stay north of the river. Anything in the SE post codes is the worst - not only the crime, but it'a pain to get around. Just like in any big city, keep your wits about you, don't venture down dark alleys alone, etc. The guy who said to carry a gun is exaggerating just a tad.

yes you'll be ok there just bring your stab proof vest, dont venture outside at night and if you own a gun CARRY IT AT ALL TIMES. you get the picture.
