i try for a few times, then rest and try it another time; if i don't make it then, i'll quit and move on, and allow others a shot at it

If whatever it is means enough, then of course try again! You will never know if you can succeed by giving up. I think I read a quote somewhere (can't remember by whom) that said if you do give up, then the successful effort would have come right after that. So, don't give up.
