It is a prescription for failure. Our founding fathers did not want a democratic govt, they tried to install a constitutional republic, with elected officials who were to maintain the law and not extend it.
To maintain the law took wisdom, not politics. Now, to get elected democratically, politicians appeal to the needy public and we continue to use up our wealth.
I'm against a democratic govt for many reasons, the simplest is that the public can vote in a dictatorship or a religious govt, and then, many of us will worry for our lives.

Hello Mariette...My Name is George. While it can't be simply explained, It can be easy to understand. I hope this Little bit helps you.
Sometimes Democracy is a collective thought from many sources.
"Democracy is a way that a nation or group chooses to be governed by process of election." We the People are the most important factor in a democracy. (we meaning citizens) We the people choose our leaders and laws. We pledge our allegiance to protect, defend and obey the rights and laws that guarantee our freedoms. A nation governed by Democracy is always a nation guaranteed certain rights by it's people to protect it's citizens from harm. We the people have the right to life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Good Luck
