In light of the significant anti-American feeling that seems to be prevalent throughout the world. Even when people explain that they understand the difference between the US Administration and the American people. [But on that point - even though he stole his first term, the majority of Americans did vote for his 2nd term...]

I am genuinely curious, not just trying to make a point. Oh and if you're going to respond in Spanish - get the verb form right...

Kate & Dansol - the question obviously wasn't for you - why waste time answering?

BTW Amglo I wasn't having a go - besides you're clearly too politically unaware to deserve living in the "land of the free".

I love our nation, and I would never want to be a citizen of another country. Not to say that other countries are inferior. But the United States is an amazing place that sets the bar for the rest of the world in a lot of ways.
I don't aggree with our foreign conflicts, but I think it's some pretty ignorant people out in the world if they're going to judge the people of an entire nation based on what its government is doing.
I feel lucky that I live somewhere where can voice my disagreement with what our nation does, and I can choose to believe in something other than the state mandated religion without being killed for it.

It's and interesting question.

Think about it, if our country were gone tomorrow, what would you do??

This Country is like a family. I grew up not being too fond of the things my Father did but he was still my Father (for life)

America has a system where someone has the desire to be President. Think about it, in the big reality he has less control than one thinks.. It's an illusion that the President runs the country. The Senate the House and the people certainly have their say. It's much more like a negotiation.

Also once a decision is made there is no way of knowing how the aftermath will follow.

A Politician runs on hopes and ideals. It is not a reality that they can accomplish all they desire.

Where else would I rather Live?? No place I can think of. It definately isn't perfect, but its the best we have for now.The one thing I can guarantee, just wait, Everything will be different before long. All countries do not have the total freedom that we have, we are free to come and go and live as we wish. Always remember that.

AMERICAN IS MY COUNTRY AND MY FAMILY AND ALWAYS WILL BE.

As far as being an American, I am about as proud as they come. I don't particularly care for President Bush, but at the same time, I can realize that his job is more difficult than probably any on the face of the planet and making that many decisions, your bound to get some of the wrong. However, this country is the greatest in the world, and I will put that up against anyone who cares to differ. We have our problems like every other country. The biggest difference is, since we are the only superpower there is, all our dirty laundry is strewn about the world for all to see. I'm sure that the U.K. has many problems of its own, the French are a bunch of sally-asses who hate the U.S until Germany runs them over, then its, "come help us, we are French." I've traveled to many countries outside the U.S. and everywhere I go I am more than proud to say that I am an American.

And for Kate, you are just an ignoramus. Its got to make you feel pretty big about yourself to call a whole society, namely Americans, stupid and say that we do not pay attention. I'm sure I could take you to task on almost any topic any day having to do with any subject from MY country, which you obviously know nothing about.

I don't mind being American although I hate that the idiocy of the President and his actions are transferred to me. I mean... then there is the fact that there are so many close minded, gun toting, good-fearing, bible-bangers that give all americans a bad name. Thus I associate more with bieng a New Yorker than with being an American.. I know that sounds weird but America is really big and really different, regionally....

I love my country. I love my city. I hate my government and I am a patriot for saying that. America was founded on descent and voicing my descent is not a terrorist action- its a patriotic notion!

I do not include myself with the Americans of nowadays..if I were to travel, I would probably pretend to be Canadian or something. At one time, I would have been fine, but the current administration has squelched any feelings of pride. By the way, I think he stole both elections. Here is a very good article by Robert Kennedy Jr., if you haven't read it.

I have no political party..although I am inclined to perhaps term myself more of a Constitutionalist.

I'm British and I'd hate to be American because I wouldn't want to have to PAY when I was sick/injured and needed hospital treatment or to see a doctor. Like its some kind of luxury!!!

Plus I would hate to live in a country where people look down on the poor so much, everything is about making money/free market economy and people seem to think that Government has no responsiblity to look after its poorest people because its all "their fault" that they are poor (what even if they are sick, disabled or have lost their job through no fault of their own??). That would be just like living in Thatcher's Britain - and that SUCKED!!!!!!!

I have travelled all over this big, blue, spinning ball and have seen both wonderous and horrific things. I have taken in the beautiful views of the alps, the terrific beer in Bavaria, the delicous food of Italy, the wild plains of the Australian outback, the delicate yet strong women of the Orient. I have also witnessed a woman beheaded in Saudi Arabia, Deaths Highway in Kuwait, the brutal tactics of neo-Nazis in Berlin, the FBI shooting flames in a Waco farmhouse (the Davidians set the fire according to the official report). But there is no place in the world like America! We have it all and we share it all and we do our best to learn tolerence. It feels great to be an American.

I'm going to have to quote an English rock band, the Who.

It feels "Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy"

You don't like America, you think Americans are stupid, fine. Quit watching American TV shows and movies. Don't read American books or magazines. Don't listen to blues, jazz, R&B, rock and roll, or hip hop. Quit wearing blue jeans and baseball caps (turned backward of course). Don't wear clothing with US sport teams or pictures of Elvis or Marilyn Monroe or the Marx brothers or Mickey Mouse. Quit eating at McDonalds or pizza hut or KFC. Otherwise STFU

There are indications that dubya stole the second election as well by doing some "shuffling" ("ahem"!!!) in Ohio. To me to be proud of something you have to have accomplished something. Simply being an American is not an accomplishment for me, but even though this country is far from perfect I still think its the best country to live in anywhere.

Well, first off, I didn't vote for him.

Second, some countries have legitimate gripes about us and I can accept the difference in opinions. When countries show resentment against the US but at the same time have their grubby little hands out wanting some of my tax dollars to help their own country, I have no use for them whatsoever.
