Limewire is a program for sharing files between computers over the Internet. Since Limewire is offered for free at dozens of locations of the Internet, you have no guarantee that when you download the program it might not have a virus or spyware attached to it. Plus, when you are downloading files using it, you are trusting the person on the other end that they are actually sending the file you want, and not a virus or spyware.

Limewire, like most sharing programs, has a specific directory into which it puts all the files it downloads. Any files in the directory are also available for upload by others. You can control what is shared by controlling what files are in the directory. People can only upload from that directory.

Reports say that LimeWire is safe if you "purchase" it, I think it costs around 30 bucks.
You need to have good instincts ..so you wont download any bad viruses..or malware or adware.
If you really wanna use it you need an anti virus to scan those downloaded files before you even click on them.

Word from the wise..dont download any anti virus software from LimeWire. Download elsewhere.

Limewire, is a peer-sharing program for music, video dowloads. I have found that recently it's just not working anymore, takes a very long time to connect, dowload, etc. It used to be wonderful source, but like all good things, had to end! Yes, u can decide not to share, but that's the whole point, folks share, so you can have access to their networks.

LimeWire is a shareware program that people use to download programs and files to their computer without having to pay for them. It happens alot with music and music videos. It is a safer program on Macs then on PCs. But dont be over reassured. Viruses can travel all over this program so make sureyou have a good viruse protection program for your computer. As for chosing what you share, I am not sure because I dont have any experience in that category.

LimeWire is a peer-to-peer file sharing program on lines of Napster/Grokster. If you check the Tools>Options, you can change what you share and even how much bandwidth you wish to give for uploading of files.

The program is known to be fairly safe and I think is one of the top downloads on download.com for a long time. However, when you are downloading files, avoid downloading *.exe/ *.pif and if you do, make sure you do a virus scan with latest definitions.

You can decide but the problem is that

you should check the filename, filetype before downloading.

Many of them rename 'exe','aphrodisiac' files as .mp3,.ogg etc which is mistaken & downloaded. It can be harmful to ur PC,if it contains mailicious codes that catch ur identiy, other details, viruses etc.........
So keep an eye on the item you are going to download.

For high security download files, being downloading by more than 1host.
