I'm thinking of going back to school. The problem I'm having is deciding which career path to take. I'm scared I'm going to choose something and end up where I am now, hating my job. I'm looking into the medical field, either a dental hygienist or an x-ray technician. Is there anyone is either field that can help me out?

I'm an xray tech. An Xray tech makes MUCH less money than a hygienist, however a Radiologist makes a coparable wage to a hygienist. Xray school has LOTS of math and science classes, and it requires a lot of studying. (I'm sure hygiene school is the same in the studying department.) It all depends on what you want to do. Look in mouths all day or shoot Xrays. (Also, make sure you don't go to a school that only offers "Limited scope" xray tech school. That's the lower paying job!

Go online and look for the myers-briggs aptitude test, take that , you can get it free. You also might try other free aptitude tests to see if you're inclined towards medicine or dentaly hygiene.
Another book to read is by Richard Boles is called What Colour is Your Parachute. It las alot of good career planning ideas.
Your local employment office probably also offers aptitude testing.
Choosing a career is indeed difficult. You may end up changing careers, according to statistics, four or five times. However there are lots of people and programs out there to help you, so don't be scared. Don't rush into anything either ,take your time, take the tests, think about the results, think about what you REALLY enjoy doing and then try and find a career based on that.

You're doing the right thing. Ask people who work in those fields what they DON'T like about their jobs.
