Are beautiful, first of all, but, my question is: if you're black/white, how would you decide what race you'd chose to be known as? What I mean is:
whatever benefits you to get better jobs, etc,or to be able to go into any small town without feeling like everyone is looking at you?(this is the racist small town I live in, my bf is Korean and they look at him like he's got 2 heads sometimes)
Or the awesome culture of the Afroamerican race?
Don't say, race doesn't matter and all that bs..
It's just a hypothetical question for fun.

People will identify you with whatever race is predominant. IE, if you are black and white, but your predominant features are black...you will be considered black....

I think people choose the one they look like the most. I am mixed with Black and Hawaiian. I look mostly Black. Everyone checks Black in my race profile before they even ask me. I usually check black if I am in a mostly black area. If I'm not in a mostly black area, I always check Black and Asian Pacific Islander. My mom, on the other hand, gets extremely upset because I dont claim her race. So ,now that I'm older, I check Black and Pacific Islander no matter where I am.

THE CHILD ACTUALLY HAS NO CHOSE IN THE MATTER.BECAUSE, AT BIRTH THE CHILD IS CONSIDERED THE RACE OF THE FATHER.BLACK HAPPENS TO BE THE DOMAINT ONE IN MOST CASES.I KNOW MANY MIXED PEOPLE AND THEY RATHER TAKE THE RACE ON THEY'RE BIRTH RECORDS.BUT, THEN AGAIN SOME MAY IN FACT LATER IN LIFE WANT THAT TO BE CHANGED.IT IS HARD AS A MIXED INDIVIDUAL TO HIDE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE NOT MIXED.SO, IF THE EMPLOYER LOOKS AT THEM THAT TENDS TO STAND OUT TAKE A SORE THUMB.BUT, THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS.OH, I HAPPEN TO BE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH A MIXED MAN.MAYBE , I SEEM TO BE A KNOW IT ALL.BUT, DON'T MEAN TO BE.

maybe your bf gets double takes because he's hot...I don't know.I'm a white male...I'm gay but can easily pass as straight..you're right --I passed as straight to get a better job. But I kinda object to you saying that it is bs that race doesn't matter..because to me it really doesn't. I find the whole matter of races to be quite an interesting fascinating thing..to learn about how different people view the world.

another question for this is: how many different nationalities must they lump under one heading? A person from cape town, Africa is much different from someone from Jamaica - yet they are both "black". I'm full blood Irish and I am very different from the french, Italian, German, and ENGLISH (UGH). I am proud of my heritage. How about a form that lists all the countries and you can check each one that you have ancestry from - that would solve both problems! :-)

The old separatists wanted anyone who had another race in their blood to check that they were not white. So if you were 50% white, 50% black, they would want you to say black because they would've considered you black.

In Nazi Germany, if you had any Jewish blood in you, you were considered Jewish, even if you did not practice the religion. Historically, whatever the minority is that is in your blood, you were to note that.

Nowadays, I think it's up to whatever the person wants to put.

I never picked a race. That makes no sense. You don't just throw out part of your ethnicity and only identify with one if you are more than one. It seems that non-biracial people are the ones who are more concerned with the "How you identify" question moreso than biracial people. I am both..not just one.

whenever the people at school need to know what race I am my dad always checks "african american" even though Im only about 40% black.

I think that's because usually, they dont show any of my other races, and he doesn't want to check "other"
