Both of them won their country the world cup. But I think Maradona is better, given the impact he had on the 1986 tournament where there were many great players and great teams, but Maradona shone brightest.

Had Zidane led France to triumph this year then he would be judged better, but he fell at the final hurdle, even without considering that head-butt.

My rank of the top 5.

1. Maradona
2. Pele
3. Zidane
4. Beckenbauer
5. Garrincha (just ahead of Best, Charlton, Eusebio, Cruyff, Puskas and Ronaldo 2002).

Zidan is better if you look at every aspect of the game. Maradona was a one dimensional player with an ego the size of argentina and of course he liked to cheat...and it wasn't the hand of God. Zidan had grace and was truly a maestro on the field and stood up for all those who will stand up to bigotry and bully on the field.
Zidan... we will miss you and I will alway wear your truly # 10 France head butt shirt.

Maradona is fine, but Zidane is better. And how the hell is Zidane a disgrace? Because he had the courage to defend his honour?! Maradona had a drug addiction and touched the ball with his hand to score in a World Cup game, don't you call that a disgrace?!

I'd have to say Zidane, I haven't seen Maradona play.
