Why will the TM Leafs suck again this year and generations to come?

The Leafs are the richest team in Canada and yet they seem to always spend money extra carefully. Last season was a joke: no significant off-season acquisitions except Allison (do not tell me that Lindros deal was serious) and expected bad performance as a result and then blaming everything on the coach?? That looks like pre-Darryl Sutter Calgary Flames to me. This year same story: Paul Maurice is a good coach, but no significant acquisitions except maybe Michael Peca. So OK, Leafs may do better than last year, but they are not a serious Cup contender and at most they will just end the season after the first round of playoffs. Of course, you never know about guys like Steen and Wellwood, but who dares to say that those are star caliber players. C'mon Leafs to win you have to spend a little more $$$ than you do!

With the salary cap, any team has a chance now. If the general manager plays his cards right in signing free agents, keeps good players from leaving and makes some good trades and his team stays injury free, most teams have a shot if you are in the right position come April. John Ferguson is the Maple Leafs problem!

Leafs don't really have anything Wellwood, Steen and especially Pogge are not the answer to their problems within the next 5 years they wont even be with the Leafs. the Leafs owner are in it just for the money nothing more. if they win the Stanley cup the players will want more money so the Leafs would actually lose money so. that's why they never really try to improve on trying to win the cup, its been like that since Ballard and it will be like that for years to come. so you will not see a Stanley Cup in Toronto for many years.

the maple laughs always suck and always will because they have to face the sabres and senators all the time -- and they always lose! as a big-time sabres fan and a hockey player myself, i love the rivalry with toronto (awesome city btw) and enjoy going to sabres-leafs games at hsbc arena more than any other games aside from the playoffs (which the leafs never make, lol). it's so fun to watch our sabres kick the leafs' asses!

LEAFS SUCK!

GO SABRES!

Fans in big market cities in Canada believe their team should be great always. Therefore they put a lot of pressure on management to put a good product on the ice. Which I believe leads to mediocre year after mediocre year. Edmonton and Calgary refused to pay out to free agents that would keep their team mediocre, and they went in the tank and missed the playoffs in consecutive years, their fans still stood by their team and we're rewarded with a trip to the finals.

I believe Toronto will never be a winner till they learn that missing the playoffs because your rebuilding is a good thing. Suck it up and wait for next year.

Too many old players over the course of the last couple of years, Not enoughh Blockbuster deals, Sundin Is too old and past his prime. McCabe is good, But not that good. Hopefully theyll Be the next tteam to break the flames record of longest consecutive playoff years, that would be nice. Close to 40 Years since they won the cup, porbaly another 40 before they break the final.

They're not going to. Before they spent too much money on old veterens that were past their prime. With the salary cap, the Leafs can't do that. They will spend their money on developing young players, like Steen, Wellwood and Pogge. When these players reach their prime, the Leafs are GOING TO RULE THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because it's about money, not the game. Because the teacher's union really runs them, and because the dumb fans will fill the rink, buy the stuff and drink the beer no matter what team actually suits up.
