It is absolutely safe in this day and age to get pregnant even into your early to mid forties. There is a higher risk for trisomy but these conditions are routinely checked for and amniocentesis or CVS is safe and readily available. If you are healthy and live a healthy life style the odds of having a healthy baby are very good. If you want babies and will be a good parent don't let your age stop you.

your odds of getting a healthy baby does not all of a sudden drop because you hit 35, it's a gradual process as you age. A lot depends on the women's health history and life style and genetics.

Your odds of Downs syndrome and other birth defects do go up gradually as you age. However, the statistics are still drastically in your favor when it comes to having a healthy baby, particularly if you're a healthy woman.

They say that after 30 a woman has a good chance of having an unhealthy baby. 35 is definitely not safe. The woman should talk to a physician to find out if she is safe or not.

of course it is fine.
lets see my mother had me in 1967 and she was 45 yrs old.
i came out fine.
my sister more recently, had her first child at 1998 and she was 31 years old, her second one in 2000 and she was 33 and her third one in 2006 and she was 38 yrs old. all came out helathy.
i also have had other friends who have had babies in their 20's and have had complications and other who have had them in their late 30's and 40's and no problem.
it used to be a myth that the younger you were the dafer it was to have kids. nowadays , how advance medicine has involved, that it really does not matter what age you are as long as you take care of yourself prenatal and natal.
