My PVC pipes have just recently started to moan. They only do it every once in a while and only for about 5-10 seconds at a time. Does anyone know where I should start looking to repair this?

Does it sound like one of these?

Fog Horn, Bleating, Wailing, Moaning, Humming, Screaming
Fluttering, Rattling, Chattering, Motor Boat, Whistling, Oboe

Try the link below for an aswer! It seems to think tha:

"Often a faulty toilet ballcock (fill valve) will cause resonance sounds like these. At least it's easy to check -- here's how to tell if this is the cause. Close the supply valves to all the toilets. If the noise disappears, open them one-by-one till the noise starts again. Replace the ballcock in that toilet.:

Another answer may lay at the 2nd link.

Or, you can search at "moaning water pipes" for other sites. Good luck finding your watery ghost!!

which pipes is it making the noise is the obvious first question.
and are you doing if anything when it happens?
the solution varies whether its: hot or cold water feeds (15 or 22mm only really in new properties), heating pipes (as above), waste pipes from bath, shower or basins( usually 32 or 40mm) or the main soil stack ( 4 inch waste from toilets).
any more info will help

they may not be strapped properly and when the water goes through or the temperature of the water changes fast the pipes may move a little bit and make noises

u either have air in your water system or you have a vavle( ballcock, shut off vavles or faucets) that needs repaired or replaced. if u cant find the source of the noise i would call a plumber to locate it and repair it

It's most likely trapped air pockets and will probably go away in a short time.If it doesn't you'll have to call a plumber. It sounds nuts but that's what causes it in most cases
