I really can't watch the guy without gagging.
Everything is monotone - reading from a script.
How did he ever get the acclaim?
I loved Robin hood where he's the only one who's not speaking with an English accent - like he just gave up trying.
Some of his stuff is downright funny.
See Bull Durham where he has his first monologue in Annie's house. It's worse than a high school play.

WAIT: Eddie brings up a good point. See next question about Susan Sarandon.

I agree. How does that guy continue to get jobs? He did the worst imitation of a Boston accent ever heard in that movie about JFK and the Cuban missile crisis.

You are right about his bland mannerisms in his characters. But it would be weird to see him in a movie acting any other way. And now with Mel Gibson out of the picture, Costner has the monopoly for A-list middle-aged dramatic film headliners. Costner's latest film, "Mr. Brooks" is kind of like "Collateral" with Costner as the Cruise character and Dane Cook as the Fox character (kinda). And Costner's blandness fits the role perfectly. This time you will love the monotone reading-from-a-script acting style. There's even a little "Sixth Sense" thrown in.

No, I leave the pathetic designation to such actors as Jack Black, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, and Will Farrel to name a few!

He is overrated.
But I liked him in Silverado, Open range & Wyatt Earp. The mumbling works for him in Westerns.
Notable is A Perfect World with Clint Eastwood.
He's also quietly-funny in Rumor Has It.

I never cared for Kevin Costner & didn't understand it when all the women would swoooon over him! I don't understand the fuss or how he got to be such a "star". He's pretty lame - right up there with Tom Cruise (another one I never "got" the hype over)

I disagree with you. I happen to love him in Silverado, Field of Dreams, The Untouchables, and JFK , and For Love of the Game...he's quite brilliant

He is the perfect example of how it takes everyone around you to make a guy look good.

What really should be happening is that his supporting actors should be slapping him upside the head like a stoooge.
