That OXYCLEAN powder worked for me. I had the same issue. But it did take some scrubbing, and then I used a carpet shampooer on top of it.

Go to the hardware store and look for a product called Folex Instant carpet stain remover. I had rust stains on my carpet when I moved in and this works great. The product is safe for pets and children.

There are products meant to remove rust stains in laundry. Check out your local supermarket in the detergent aisle for it. If it works on the laundry, it should clear up your carpet issue.

"Whink" is available at many grocery stores and is a very powerful rust remover which can be used on carpets. Note this is hydrofluoric acid which is the strongest acid out there, so don't try it unless your willing to carefully follow all instructions. God be with you.
