Pluto's surface is covered with 97% nitrogen ice and 1-2% carbon monoxide ice. The temperature there is -382 degrees F. whereas absolute zero is-459.7 degrees F. or just 78 degrees above it. Pluto is about 20% ice and 80% rock. All some celestial bodies are is rock and ice far from the sun, closer just rock and water basically, like earth. It appears red from our point in the solar system but that is a trick of light as it is light brown. It is about 1,400 miles in diameter, about half the width of the continental US. It has 3 moons: Charon, Nix, and Hydra. Charon orbits Pluto about 12,203 miles away, about the width of the Pacific Ocean maybe, and it's more like a double planet with the two bodies sharing a central gravity point. Pluto has an ultra-thin atmosphere similar to the thinness of atmosphere you would see about 50 miles above the earth, or 44 miles above the top of Mount Everest. This thin, insignificant atmosphere will freeze away as it's orbit takes it farther from the sun.

But I still consider it a planet. And only 454 IAU members out of 10,000 voted on this. You're talking about 250-275 members IN THE WORLD making this decision
