If you aren't wanting to go to college, you just want to learn how to make a #D DirectX game:

First - Download Microsoft Visual C# Express Edition

Second - Go to http://www.rocketcommander.com, go to downloads, and download the source code.

Third - Go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/coding4fun/gamedevelopment/rocketcmd/default.aspx
and just follow those tutorials

After a week or so, you will have made your first 3D game without any college experience in gaming.

Hope it helped!
